Position Overview

We are seeking an Accounting & Finance Manager to build and own the company’s financial backbone. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, developing scalable systems, and providing strategic financial insight as ACS grows from startup to growth-stage company and beyond. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, government contract compliance knowledge, and the ability to partner with leadership on forecasting, planning, and long-term growth initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead all accounting and finance functions, ensuring accurate books, compliant reporting, timely invoicing, and actionable financial insights.
• Manage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll coordination, reconciliations, monthly/quarterly close, and annual audits.
• Own financial planning and analysis by building budgets, cash flow projections, and scenario models to guide leadership decisions.
• Prepare and present timely financial reports to leadership with clear insights into company performance.
• Oversee compliance with FAR/DFARS requirements and ensure accurate reporting for government contracts; support DCAA audits and cost-plus structures.
• Evaluate and implement scalable financial systems, tools, and internal controls to support organizational growth.
• Oversee tax filings and coordinate with external accountants and consultants as needed.
• Partner with the Head of Business Operations and leadership team on strategic initiatives, fundraising preparation, and long-term planning.
• Lay the groundwork for future leadership opportunities by shaping the finance function and potentially building a team as the company scales.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including at least 2 years in a leadership or manager-level role.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience with government contract accounting and compliance (FAR/DFARS); familiarity with DCAA audits and cost-plus structures is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); ERP/financial system implementation experience preferred.
• Ability to balance detail-oriented execution with strategic thinking about long-term financial health.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to finance and non-finance audiences.

• Prior experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting.
• Hands-on experience implementing or scaling financial systems.
• Demonstrated success partnering with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and fundraising.
• A track record of building or formalizing finance and accounting functions in a startup or growth-stage company.
