About Bandana

Bandana’s mission is to improve the livelihoods of hourly workers through transparency and trust, starting with finding better jobs. We believe that hard work should lead to success, and that this applies to all, not just the privileged few.

Bandana today has hit PMF with job seekers, with over a million monthly active users. While the platform today focuses purely on a best in class job search experience, we aim to start providing value to users beyond the search itself. That means improving candidate applications and making them easier, driving features to motivate job seekers, and providing them help with interviewing prep.

Job search is broken today. Application volume is absurdly high, as job seekers apply to hundreds of jobs in the hopes of landing even one interview while employers wade through thousands of low-intent candidates for every job. Long term, Bandana aims to drop the hundred-to-one matching process to one-to-one. That means providing the best in class experience to both employers and job seekers, so that neither dread the hiring process any longer.

The Role

Over the last 12 months, Bandana has grown dramatically in the number of people using us to find their next job, and we're just getting started. We need someone to guide and champion our platform layer - ensuring that the infrastructure can support our growing scale and that the developer experience can support our growing team. You'll serve as the primary owner and steward and work closely with a dedicated engineering team that values practical solutions over ceremony.

What You'll Do

  • Scale, maintain, and build best-practices for our Kubernetes infrastructure on GCP
  • Support scaling our database infrastructure (Cloud SQL PostgreSQL with read replicas, connection pooling, replication monitoring)
  • Develop improved DevOps pipelines and process, including CI/CD pipelines, observability, deployment automation, standardized runbooks, and incident management
  • Lead best practices around security including secrets management and security hardening
  • Debugging production issues across the stack when things go sideways
  • Advise on and implement architectural decisions that balance reliability with our pace of iteration

What We're Looking For

  • 4-7 years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years focused on platform/infrastructure/DevOps
  • Strong Kubernetes experience including k8s fundamentals and GKE specific k8s features (you've debugged node pressure, configured HPA, familiar with Flux/Helm/other tools in the K8 space, experience with Docker)
  • Experience with established cloud providers (GCP/AWS and features like serverless deployments)
  • Comfort with IaC (Terraform preferred)
  • Solid understanding of PostgreSQL operations (replication, connection pooling, performance tuning)
  • History of building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in support of high velocity teams
  • Opinions — We’re a social and collaborative team so we want to hear what you have to say!

Bonus Points

  • GCP experience preferred, but AWS experience translates well
  • Experience with Elasticsearch
  • Familiarity with Next.js (pages router) deployment patterns and edge cases
  • You’ve built ETL pipelines, worked with data warehousing technology, and know how to deal with data at scale.

What We Offer

  • $180,000 - $200,000 based on experience + equity
  • Medical/Dental/Vision insurance
  • Wellness benefit
  • Influence over technical direction at a company early enough for it to matter
  • A team that treats infrastructure as a first-class concern, not an afterthought
  • Lunch!
