We are seeking an experienced Deputy General Counsel to join BitGo's legal team and support our mission of providing secure digital asset infrastructure to institutional clients worldwide. This role will work closely with our General Counsel to navigate the complex regulatory landscape governing digital assets while supporting business operations across custody, trading, and financial services. The Deputy General Counsel will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, managing legal risk, and enabling business growth in the rapidly expanding digital asset sector. This position requires deep expertise in financial services law, regulatory compliance, and the unique legal challenges facing digital asset companies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel on digital asset custody, trading, and financial services regulations across multiple jurisdictions
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including custody agreements, trading contracts, and enterprise client arrangements
- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements including AML, KYC, and licensing obligations
- Support business development initiatives by structuring legally compliant product offerings and service expansions
- Manage relationships with external counsel and coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries and examinations
- Advise on corporate governance matters, board resolutions, and strategic transactions
- Lead legal due diligence for partnerships, acquisitions, and new market entry initiatives
- Develop and maintain legal policies, procedures, and training materials for business stakeholders
- Monitor regulatory developments in digital assets and provide strategic guidance on compliance implications
- Support litigation management and dispute resolution efforts as needed
Requirements:
- JD from accredited law school with strong academic credentials
- 8+ years of legal experience with focus on financial services, banking, or securities law
- Demonstrated expertise in digital asset regulations, cryptocurrency compliance, or fintech legal matters
- Experience with money transmission, banking, or securities licensing and regulatory frameworks
- Strong background in contract negotiation and commercial transaction structuring
- Knowledge of international regulatory requirements and cross-border compliance issues
- Proven ability to provide practical legal guidance in fast-paced, high-growth environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex legal concepts to business stakeholders
- Active bar admission in good standing (California or New York preferred)
- Previous experience at a digital asset company, financial institution, or top-tier law firm strongly preferred
Pay Transparency Notice: Depending upon your leveling and location, the compensation for this role averages between $275,000 - 320,000 USD base salary.
