About the Role

Craft Ventures is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build internal tools and software that power how the firm operates. This is a unique opportunity to sit inside a venture capital firm, gain exposure to how VC works, and ship products from the ground up.

You’ll be the first dedicated engineer at Craft, working directly with Jeff Fluhr (co-founder of StubHub and Venture Partner at the firm) as well as other members of the Craft team. You’ll own the technical roadmap end-to-end: architecture, infrastructure, scalability, and security. If you like working independently with lots of autonomy and creativity but also like the idea of working with an accomplished founder, this role is for you.

What you’ll do (first 12 months)

• Own full-stack development across React and Python
• Ship high-quality UX with modern UI/design
• Build integrations and data pipelines with third-party data providers
• Own DevOps: refine Docker, CI/CD, observability, cost/perf monitoring, and secure GCP deployment
• Review and optimize existing code for scalability, security, and performance
• Leverage AI-assisted coding to accelerate development without sacrificing quality
• Create lightweight product specs, translate ambiguous problems into shippable increments, and set engineering best practices
• Evolve architecture from a single-firm tool into a secure, multi-tenant platform (auth, roles, permissions, data isolation, scale)

Qualifications (targeting 5+ years experience)

• AI-first mindset: Excited and currently using AI coding to amplify developer velocity
• Proven full-stack experience shipping production products end-to-end
• Front end: React + modern JS/TS patterns; strong component architecture and state management
• Back end: Python services/APIs; familiarity with async patterns, background jobs, and testing
• AI APIs: Experience building applications that rely on OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, RAG, embeddings, and vector databases
• Data: Postgres/SQL design, query tuning, migrations, and basic analytics workflows
• Cloud & DevOps: shipping on GCP; Docker; CI/CD; monitoring/logging; security basics
• Product mindset: comfort with ambiguity, fast iteration, and user-centric tradeoffs
• Startup energy: scrappy, humble, high-ownership; bias to action without sacrificing quality

Nice to have

• Mobile development (native or React Native)
• Data ingestion/ETL, webhook/event processing, and third-party SaaS integrations
• Role-based access control, SSO, multi-tenant security, and cost/performance optimization

Compensation
