The Opportunity:

Culture Biosciences is looking for a Media Technician II / Media Associate at Culture Biosciences, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the manufacturing of media and reagents is executed on time and to the specifications. You will work in a laboratory environment, collaborating across teams and functions to ensure media is manufactured to meet the client’s and project’s requirements. Candidates will be hired at the Meda Technician II or Associate level as appropriate based on experience.

What you'll do:

  • Prepare various types of media and reagents including culture media, acids, bases, stock solutions and feed solutions, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and formulation guidelines.
  • Document media preparation activities and identify / troubleshoot operational issues
  • Work directly with the tech transfer team to onboard and offboard clients, their materials and recipes.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations during all aspects of the work, including the handling of hazardous materials and waste management.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, autoclaves, and media dispensers
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of media components, chemicals, and supplies; place orders as needed
  • Receive, inspect, and store incoming supplies according to standard protocols.
  • Follow good laboratory practices (GLP) and SOPs to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Perform quality control checks on media, such as pH, density, osmolality and Cedex assays.
  • Document all activities, including deviations, and maintain accurate records in compliance with company requirements.
  • Execute the onboarding of QC tests and any validation studies.
  • Write recipes and drive operational changes or improvement.
  • Collaborate with management, team members, Project leads and scientists to meet project goals and timelines.

About you:

  • Media Technician II Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree or Associates degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field.
    • 2-4 years of industry experience working in microbial and/or mammalian laboratories involving reagent and/or media manufacturing.
  • Media Associate Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field.
    • 1+ years of experience working directly with media/reagent formulations.
    • 4+ years of industry experience working in microbial and/or mammalian laboratories involving reagent and/or media manufacturing.
  • Additional skills/experiences required:
    • Demonstrated ability to formulate chemical recipes.
    • Expert in laboratory techniques and equipment used in media preparation and QC testing.
    • Expert in aseptic technique.
    • Able to lead technical improvement projects from start to finish.
    • Strong communicator, detail-oriented, organized, and proactive.
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow standard protocols and guidelines.

Location & Schedule:

  • This is an onsite, shift based role. We’re looking for someone based in the San Francisco Bay Area who is able to work in person at our office in South San Francisco Tuesday through Saturday from 9am - 5pm PT.

Base Salary Range:

Culture Biosciences's compensation package includes market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and great benefits. Our expected compensations for this role is:

Media Technician II: $30.28 - $34.61 per hour

Media Associate: $34.61 - $39.90 per hour

We are hiring for multiple levels and backgrounds so final offers may vary within the range provided based on experience, expertise, and other factors.
