The Opportunity:
Culture Biosciences is looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer. Your focus will be to lead initiatives that improve product quality, production efficiency, and operational excellence. This role requires deep technical expertise, leadership in process optimization, and the ability to drive cross-functional projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. We are looking for a candidate to develop manufacturing processes that deliver reliable and high performance hardware. You will work with team members from the fields of mechanical, electrical, chemical, software and materials engineering to create new bioreactors, single use assemblies and automation systems. The candidate should be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while building systems to create a controlled, high quality manufacturing environment.
What you'll do:
- Scale consumables & hardware engineering prototypes from conception to higher manufacturing volumes.
- Scale the manufacturing line and implement automation and testing .
- Enhance Culture's in-house manufacturing capabilities as well as our external manufacturing partnerships.
- Help define our hardware engineering culture.
- Identify the root cause of hardware quality issues, often by designing and performing tests.
- Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, contract manufacturers, assemblers, or other support personnel to assist in design, manufacture, debugging and optimizing system performance.
- Give input to project plans and schedules for new product implementation.
- Interface with external suppliers for component and process design, and assist the team in maintaining adequate component/equipment inventory.
- Work cross functionally to develop and maintain systems, including user testing and feedback, training, and documentation
- Create manufacturing instructions and testing protocols
- Learn about fermentation, cell culture, and biomanufacturing
About you:
- 8+ years of related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or a related degree.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting, and bringing products from concept through market release and beyond.
- Experience building test rigs and test processes for assemblies and finished products.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting during system development, manufacturing transfer, and design verification/validation activities.
- Must be capable of clearly communicating engineering concepts, project status, and technical risk to other individuals and teams.
- Good organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and multitask
- Leadership mindset. You take ownership of problems and inspire the team to deliver exceptional results
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex problems
- You have experience working in a 3D CAD platform.
- You have some experience writing simple scripts for automated testing.
Location & Schedule:
- This is an onsite position. We’re looking for someone based in the San Francisco Bay Area who is able to work in person at our office in South San Francisco at least 5 days per week.
Base Salary Range:
Culture Biosciences's compensation package includes market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and great benefits. Our expected salary range for this role is $151,000 to $171,000. We are hiring for multiple levels and backgrounds so final offers may vary within the range provided based on experience, expertise, and other factors.
