Fingerprint empowers developers to stop online fraud at the source.

We work on turning radical new ideas in the fraud detection space into reality. Our products are developer-focused and our clients range from solo developers to publicly traded companies. We are a globally dispersed, 100% remote company with a strong open-source focus. Our flagship open-source project is FingerprintJS (27K stars on GitHub).

We have raised $77M and are backed by Craft Ventures (previously invested in Tesla, Facebook, Airbnb ), Nexus Venture Partners (previously invested in Postman, Apollo.io, MinIO, Druva) and Uncorrelated Ventures (previously invested in Redis, Rollbar & Gradle).

We have noticed a rise in recruiting impersonations across the industry, where scammers attempt to access candidates' personal and financial information through fake interviews and offers. All Fingerprint recruiting email communications will always come from the @fingerprint.com domain. Any outreach claiming to be from Fingerprint via other sources should be ignored.

Senior Engineering Manager

About the Role

Fingerprint builds the internet’s most accurate device intelligence platform — used by thousands of developers and enterprises to detect fraud, stop account takeovers, and build trust into their products. Our engineering teams sit at the core of that mission: the signals we ship, the models we train, the APIs we maintain, and the data infrastructure we run all directly impact the accuracy and reliability our customers depend on.

We are hiring Senior Engineering Managers at the Senior Engineering Manager level across two of our platform and infrastructure domains. Each role comes with a distinct technical domain and reporting line, but the leadership bar is the same: you own outcomes across multiple teams or workstreams, you set the technical vision for your domain, you develop other managers and senior engineers, and you operate with a high degree of autonomy and strategic accountability.

At this level, the expectation shifts from executing well to leading well. You are not just running a team — you are shaping the roadmap, managing cross-domain dependencies, and representing your function to engineering leadership and the broader organization. You come to leadership with plans, not problems.

The Teams

Both roles follow the same Senior Engineering Manager bar. The domain context, reporting structure, and day-to-day technical focus differ. After your recruiter screen, we will align on which role is the strongest fit for your background — you do not need to decide before you apply.

Cloud Platform Engineering

Fingerprint processes 25B+ API requests annually, and every single one flows through the infrastructure this team owns. The Cloud Platform team is responsible for the AWS-native infrastructure that makes Fingerprint’s product reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient at that volume. This is not a caretaker role: you are inheriting a strong, senior team of six engineers and stepping into a function that needs to level up — from reliable infrastructure delivery to proactive platform strategy. You will define the 12–18 month technical roadmap for Cloud Platform, encompassing multi-region readiness, Kubernetes scalability, SRE maturity, and FinOps. You will also build the SRE capability that enables every product team to ship with confidence, establishing the on-call health, incident response frameworks, and reliability SLOs that the engineering org will run on. This role reports directly to the VP of Engineering, operates with high autonomy and executive visibility, and requires someone who sets the infrastructure standard across the entire engineering organization — not just within their own team.

Security & IT

Fingerprint’s security, IT, and compliance function is more mature than most companies of this size: SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA achieved, a comprehensive policy suite in place, and solid IT operations running globally. What the function now needs is strategic leadership. The Senior Manager, Security & IT will unify security posture, IT operations, and compliance under a coherent strategy, maturing each discipline to the next level and serving as the credible voice of security and compliance to the rest of engineering and to enterprise customers. You will manage four people across three disciplines — application security, IT operations, and compliance — and own the end-to-end function reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. Enterprise customers in financial services and large-scale fraud prevention regularly evaluate Fingerprint’s security posture; you are the person who owns that answer. This role deliberately spans three disciplines that are often separated at larger companies — and at Fingerprint’s scale, that breadth is a feature: the person who owns compliance also owns the security posture that makes compliance meaningful, and the person who owns IT operations also owns the identity and access foundation that security depends on.

What You’ll Do

Lead Across Domains

  • Own outcomes across multiple teams or workstreams. At this level, your accountability extends beyond a single squad — you are responsible for the health, delivery, and strategic direction of your full domain.
  • Develop other managers and senior engineers. Run substantive 1:1s, build succession plans, expose emerging leaders to cross-domain initiatives, and create the conditions for people on your team to grow beyond their current scope.
  • Build headcount plans proactively. Anticipate growth needs before they become capacity constraints and bring staffing proposals to leadership with rationale and timing.

Set Technical Vision

  • Define the architectural strategy for your domain. You are not just reviewing designs — you are setting the direction, identifying systemic risks, and making trade-offs visible to leadership before they become incidents.
  • Mentor other managers and senior ICs on complex technical trade-offs. Your technical credibility earns trust with engineers; your judgment on architectural decisions shapes how the team builds.
  • Proactively surface technical debt and infrastructure risk with a prioritized plan to address it — not after escalation, but before it jeopardizes delivery or reliability.

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Manage cross-domain dependencies. Align teams across team boundaries with unified direction. Other teams should initiate collaboration with you — not wait to be pulled in.
  • Communicate roadmap priorities and risks proactively to the VP of Engineering and relevant stakeholders. Translate complex technical decisions into business context. Come with recommendations, not status updates.
  • Partner with Engineering Leadership and Product on roadmap prioritization. Represent your function’s constraints, opportunities, and risks in planning processes.

Operate with Executive Accountability

  • Resolve complex cross-team problems quickly and under pressure. Make decisions in ambiguity without waiting for full information.
  • Own your function’s budget, headcount planning, and operational health with minimal guidance.
  • Bring roadmap or architecture proposals unprompted. Think about your team’s impact on the broader engineering org, not just your immediate domain.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Engineering management experience: 5-7+ years managing engineering teams, with at least 2 years at a scope equivalent to managing multiple teams, a large team, or a function with cross-domain accountability.
  • Direct ownership of performance management, career development, and hiring — not just running standups or serving as a tech lead.
  • Multi-team or cross-domain leadership: You have operated beyond a single squad and navigated dependencies, competing priorities, and alignment challenges across team boundaries.
  • Technical depth in your domain: You can set architectural direction, evaluate complex proposals, and earn credibility with senior engineers through substance — not just title.
  • A delivery track record: Concrete examples of how your teams shipped reliably, and what you specifically did when they didn’t. You take ownership of slippage, not just credit for wins.
  • Strong cross-functional communication: You translate technical constraints and opportunities into language that PMs, Finance, and executive leadership can act on. You do not wait to be asked.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity: You do not need a fully-defined mandate to lead effectively. You define the problem, structure the path forward, and bring others along.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in a high-growth B2B SaaS or API-first company where the scope of your function grew significantly during your tenure.
  • Familiarity with fraud detection, identity, device intelligence, or trust and safety domains.
  • For Cloud Platform: Cloudflare (WAF, Workers, CDN), SOC 2 compliance, zero-trust architecture, or experience scaling infrastructure through an order-of-magnitude traffic growth.
  • For Security & IT: ISO 27001, GDPR, or HIPAA experience; enterprise security questionnaire ownership; Wiz, Cloudflare, or Snyk stack familiarity.

Domain-Specific Requirements

In addition to the shared bar above, each role carries specific technical requirements. These apply only to the role you are being considered for — you do not need to meet both sets.

Cloud Platform Engineering

  • Deep AWS expertise: EKS (Kubernetes), IAM, VPC, RDS — at production scale, not just familiarity.
  • Modern DevOps stack: GitOps (ArgoCD), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) — you have lived in this stack, not just managed people who have.
  • FinOps experience: Proven track record managing seven-figure cloud budgets with measurable cost reduction outcomes.
  • SRE mindset: You think in SLOs, blameless retrospectives, and incident response frameworks — and you build cultures that do too.
  • Total technology experience: 10+ years in technology overall.

Security & IT

  • Genuine breadth across all three disciplines: application security, IT operations, and compliance/GRC. You do not need to be the deepest practitioner in each, but you must be credible enough to set direction, evaluate the work, and make hard prioritization calls across all three.
  • SOC 2 ownership: You have run or been the primary owner of a SOC 2 audit cycle — not just participated. You understand sustainable control operations versus annual scramble mode.
  • Application security depth: OWASP familiarity, vulnerability management programs (Snyk or equivalent), security review processes for engineering teams.
  • IT operations leadership: Identity and access management (Okta or equivalent), endpoint management, remote workforce IT at scale.
  • 7+ years in security, IT, or GRC with at least 3 years managing a team.
