The Role

We are currently seeking a Director of Business Development specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions. This individual will shepherd the efforts to secure new business deals by leveraging their expertise in due diligence, business valuation, lead management, and top-of-funnel campaigns. The Director of Business Development will focus on identifying and pursuing qualified acquisition targets while aligning with the company's strategic, financial, and cultural objectives based on our mission, vision, and values. This role can be located anywhere in the United States or Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers, oversees, screens, and evaluates M&A and Business Development opportunities
  • Support corporate development and founders to design and execute strategies for the acquisition of education companies across various geographies. Drive internal M&A decision-making process
  • Develop and execute strategies to achieve acquisition targets. Actively involved across multiple stages of the M&A process including identifying and qualifying sales targets and nurturing leads – Proactively initiating and maintaining relationships with owners of education businesses by email, phone, LinkedIn, conferences/trade shows, and in-person meetings. Obtaining high-level financial and operational information about target companies
  • Guide and support the growth of the M&A pipeline process – Develop tailored messaging that engages critical decision-makers. Generating and reporting on prospects, setting up qualified appointments, and moving opportunities through the M&A pipeline
  • Prepare presentations using a rationally reasoned and data-supported approach to assist leaders with the M&A decision-making process
  • Responding to ad-hoc requests in a high-pressure and time-sensitive environment – Conducting research to identify and map out potentially attractive markets to pursue and software companies to acquire. Performing any other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ of experience in management consulting, M&A, or role with highly analytical and strategic responsibilities within business development
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a Business-related major. Master of Business Administration strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel across the U.S.
  • Exceptional networking, relationship-building, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • Strong financial and business acumen. Adept with financial modeling, valuation, and financial terms and concepts. Excellent problem-solving, and sales skills
  • Experience working in a small, high-growth team and a background in software or technology is an asset
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word). Familiarity with Salesforce is an asset
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience guiding and motivating a team of junior staff to achieve targets
  • Strong communication skills. Confident in presenting to C-suite executives and business owners
  • Professional attitude and a resolute work ethic. Ability to work solely and in a collaborative team-oriented environment
