We are creating the future of brain-computer interfaces: building devices now that have the potential to help people with paralysis regain mobility and independence and invent new technologies that could expand our abilities, our community, and our world.
Team Description:
Join the implant team and be part of an elite team of engineers working on high-performance, safety-critical embedded systems for the next-generation brain-computer interfaces. We are looking for experienced, hands-on engineers who are interested in exploring what's possible in highly powered and latency-constrained environments. Firmware is the kernel of operation for the implant and you have the chance to determine and implement features that have a massive impact on the product’s capabilities. You will have the opportunity to work closely with chip designers, EEs, algorithms, and software engineers on a small team that moves quickly.
Job Responsibilities:
Shepard neural interface implant from design through to manufacturing on to production. Implant design to minimize tissue reaction. Electrode design to increase SNR in in-vivo (in-animal) recordings. Setting limits and evaluating leakage current and potentials to avoid in-vivo tissue damage. Setting limits and evaluating the effects of stimulation currents to avoid in-vivo tissue damage. Work on all phases of board design (part selection, schematic design, layout, and bring-up) as well as work closely with chip designers, robotics, mechanical engineers, and microfabrication experts for system integration. Serve as cross-disciplinary team member to work with and learn from biological engineers and neuroscientists; discover, define, and solve technical problems; and deliver engineering manufacturable design solutions that work effectively and efficiently. Design PCBs for highly power and size constrained applications.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent in Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or related field
- 2 years of progressive experience in job offered or related occupation
- Must have at least 2 years of prior work experience in each of the following:
- Embedded hardware design
- Embedded firmware design
- Bluetooth & NFC communication protocols & hardware design
- High-reliability system design
