About Norm Ai

Norm Ai, the leading Legal & Compliance AI company, has a client base with a combined $30 trillion in assets under management. By turning legal code into AI code, Norm enables enterprises to move faster and more comprehensively in their legal and compliance processes with reliability and trust.

Norm’s platform combines frontier AI, proprietary legal reasoning systems, and embedded legal and regulatory expertise.

We have recently raised more than $140 million, backed by Blackstone, Bain Capital, Vanguard, Citi, New York Life, TIAA, Coatue, Craft Ventures, Henry R. Kravis (KKR co-founder), and Marc Benioff (Salesforce CEO).

Norm Ai pioneered Legal Engineering, the process that empowers lawyers to build and supervise domain-specific AI agents with Norm’s proprietary suite of no-code software tools. We hired dozens of lawyers from premier U.S. law firms and trained them as Legal Engineers, who specialize in Large Language Model powered legal workflows.

Norm Ai technology is deployed inside many of the largest and most consequential institutions in the world. The company is growing quickly and hiring across all teams.

AI Fluency:

Norm Ai expects all team members to be fluent in AI. Successful candidates actively use AI in their day-to-day work to support thinking, creation, and problem-solving. They use it to improve the quality and speed of their work and to continuously refine how work gets done end-to-end.

Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate and discuss their AI usage throughout the interview process, including concrete examples of tools, workflows, and outcomes. We look for practical, hands-on experience, not theoretical familiarity.

The Role

AI is changing what a design team can be, not just what it builds. The patterns for AI-powered products are still emerging, and so are the patterns for how design teams should work when AI is embedded in every part of the process. We're not interested in incremental adoption. We believe AI fundamentally expands what a small team of exceptional designers can do, and we want a leader who builds the org around that conviction.

Reporting to the Head of Product, the Director of Product Design is the most senior design leader at Norm Ai. You will own the design vision, set the quality bar, build and lead a team that works in genuinely new ways, and represent design in executive and client-facing conversations. This is a leadership role first. Your craft and hands-on instincts are what give you credibility to lead, not a separate mandate.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design at Norm Ai. Set the design vision and strategy across all product verticals, from Regulatory AI agents and compliance workflows to legal service delivery. You are the single point of accountability for design quality, coherence, and simplicity across the product surface.

  • Build and scale the team around what's now possible. Own hiring strategy, org design, and team development. You will grow and directly manage a team of up to 6 designers. But this isn't about building a traditional design org. We expect you to rethink team structure, roles, and workflows given what AI makes possible. Question conventional assumptions about headcount, specialization, and process. Build a team that punches far above its size.

  • Drive cross-functional influence. Serve as the senior design voice in product strategy, go-to-market, and client conversations. Partner closely with the Head of Product, engineering leads, the C-suite, sales, and marketing. Push back when the product experience is being compromised. Ensure design has a seat and a say in every major product decision. Stay close to users by joining client meetings and sales calls, and bring the voice of the user into every strategic conversation.

  • Set the quality bar through craft and experimentation. Be hands-on. Move fluidly across Figma, Figma Make, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or whatever gets you to the best answer fastest. Care about interaction, motion, and visual polish. Stay on the cutting edge and actively experiment with emerging concepts like intent-driven interfaces, streaming workflows, adaptive layouts, and new patterns for building trust in AI-powered outputs. The playbook for this doesn't exist yet, and that's what makes it exciting.

  • Define what an AI-native design team looks like. This is the part of the role we're most excited about. Integrate MCPs, AI agents, and new tooling into every stage of the design process, from research to prototyping to handoff. Try new approaches yourself first, then bring the team along. Own resource allocation and make tradeoffs across product areas when priorities compete. Define the standards, values, and culture of a design team that treats AI as infrastructure, not novelty. Strengthen how Norm Ai presents itself externally in partnership with marketing. Make this a place where the most ambitious designers want to work.

You might be a great fit if you have

  • 8+ years in product design, with experience as a senior or sole design leader at a company where design had to earn its seat at the table. You've shaped direction, defined process, and influenced roadmap decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • 3+ years building and managing design teams, including hiring, org design, performance management, and career development. You've scaled a team, not just managed within an existing structure.

  • Executive communication and stakeholder management skills. You can present a design vision to a C-suite, navigate competing priorities across functions, and represent design confidently to clients. You have strong craft, judgment, and storytelling. A portfolio with range across visual, interaction, and systems design.

  • Real experience designing AI products. You've shipped products powered by LLMs, agents, or ML systems. Fluent in modern tools: Figma Make, Claude Code, Codex, v0, or similar.

  • A genuine conviction that AI changes how design teams should work. You don't just use AI tools. You believe they change what's possible for a design team and you're eager to prove it. You've already been experimenting with AI-assisted design workflows and have opinions about what works. You see MCPs, AI agents, and new prototyping methods not as efficiency gains but as a step change in what a designer can do.

  • B2B experience, ideally in regulated industries. Legal, compliance, or financial services is a strong advantage, but strong experience in other complex, high-stakes domains works too.

Bonus

  • Experience building or contributing to design systems at scale, especially in partnership with engineering.

  • Technical background as a software engineer.

  • Background in the legal, regulatory, or compliance space.

Why This Role

The product surface is expanding, the problems are genuinely novel, and the team is building with tools and methods that are pushing what's possible in design. If you want to be part of a company that is rethinking what it means to be a technology company in 2026, this is the moment.

30 / 60 / 90 Days

First 30 days: Learn fast, ship something, form your point of view. Get close to the product, the users, and the team. Sit in on client meetings and sales calls. Ship alongside the team and run your first design critiques. Audit the current design system, tooling, and workflows, including how the team does and doesn't use AI today. Identify the highest-leverage opportunities in both the product experience and the team's way of working, and start acting on at least one. Use AI tools in your own work from day one, not as a demonstration but because it's how you work.

By 60 days: Set direction and start changing how the team works. Have a working design strategy that connects across Norm Ai's products. Introduce at least one meaningful change to how the team works, whether that's AI tooling in the design workflow, new critique formats, or rethinking how design and engineering hand off. Deepen your presence in client conversations. Present your vision for design to leadership and get alignment on where you're headed.

By 90 days: The team should feel different. The design strategy should be in motion, not on paper. The team should be working in ways they weren't working before, with AI embedded in their process and more creative space to focus on the problems that matter. Have a clear hiring plan for growing the team. Quality improvements should be visible in the product. Be a trusted voice in cross-functional planning, product strategy, and client-facing conversations.
