Full-time
For millions of teams working in dozens of industries, day-to-day business gets done on the phone. So why — despite the huge leaps we've taken in design and usability — does most business phone software still look, feel, and act like it was born in the 90s? OpenPhone is changing that.
We’re a new type of business phone with a mission to help people communicate better and be more productive.
We’re backed by Y Combinator and some of the best venture firms around including Tiger Global, Craft Ventures, Slow Ventures, and others. We take pride in providing an exceptional customer experience and a product people love, which is why we’re excited that our customers have rated us the #1 VoIP Provider on G2.
OpenPhone is the modern, sophisticated answer to the clunky, outdated phone systems that have been slowing down businesses for years. With thousands of happy customers and several rounds of funding in just five years, it's safe to say we're onto something big.

About the role

At OpenPhone, we're looking for an Engineering Manager who will join our growing Core Engineering team to help us improve and maintain our platform, grow and develop talented engineers, and cultivate a healthy results-driven culture on your team. • Manage people: Guide and mentor engineers, foster a collaborative environment focused on continuous learning, manage performance, and support professional growth.
  • Improve reliability: Work to continuously improve our incident response, drive after-incident analysis to ensure lessons are learned and track progress.
  • Improve process: Help bring improvements to our build, release and testing cycles.
  • Integrate AI: Champion the integration of AI technologies to optimize our development and business processes.

About you:

  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role, with a demonstrated understanding of the unique challenges and values associated with managing platform and infrastructure teams
  • Passion for organization. Core Engineering is at the core of a fast moving team. We juggle long running projects, production incidents and urgent issues from other teams.
  • Proven experience building and operating cloud-based distributed systems at scale (AWS, GCP, Azure, or others)
  • Experience working with modern cloud-native architectures and technologies (e.g., k8s, microservices, etc.)
  • Experience with observability tooling (Datadog, OpenTelemetry)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building and scaling foundational practices in a growing company.
  • Experience or familiarity with AI technologies and their practical applications in enhancing software development, code review and business process automation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence decision-making.
