About the Role:
Plume is seeking its next Medical Director! Join us in this exciting role to shape the future of trans healthcare.
As Medical Director, you will be the clinical voice and subject matter expert, engaging with both internal and external stakeholders. Your role will be critical in advocating for the clinical experience during product launches, ensuring clinical accuracy in public-facing content, and leading the development and updates of key internal medical processes such as scopes of care and clinical management briefs.
This highly collaborative role requires close partnerships with the clinical leadership team to support a seamless and positive experience for patients, providers, and overall clinical operations. We are seeking someone passionate about delivering safe, affirming, and trans-competent care to the Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) community, ensuring that patients receive the right care at the right time in a relatable and reliable way.
To stay current with Plume’s processes and contribute to ongoing care improvements, the Medical Director will also maintain a small patient panel. This role will report to the Associate Vice President of Clinical and Member Services.
Please note: This role may require occasional weekend or evening availability to address urgent patient or provider needs.
Responsibilities:
Provider Management:
- Manage Full-Time Providers: Conduct monthly 1:1 meetings to offer guidance, support, and ensure alignment with clinical goals.
- Manage Full-Time Pod Leads: Conduct weekly 1:1 meetings to offer guidance, support, ensure alignment with clinical goals, and professional development opportunities
- Oversight of Contracted Providers: Serve as the primary point of contact for a growing network of approximately 40 contracted providers, addressing concerns with urgency, fairness, and clinical accuracy.
- New Clinician Integration: Collaborate with the clinical team to review new clinician hires and support their onboarding, ensuring alignment with Plume’s standards.
- Recruitment Participation: Conduct interviews to assess qualifications, clinical expertise, and cultural fit for new clinician candidates.
Quality of Care & Compliance:
- Lead Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Implement strategies to ensure the highest quality of care delivered by clinicians.
- Review Provider Performance: Oversee clinician Performance Improvement Plans (PIFs) to ensure concerns are documented, addressed, and resolved promptly.
- Chart Review and Compliance: Facilitate regular reviews of Provider charts for accuracy and adherence to clinical guidelines.
- Collaborate on Training Programs: Work with the Director of Recruiting, Onboarding, and Training to ensure alignment between recruiting and clinical training processes.
Organizational SME (Subject Matter Expert):
- Maintain a Manageable Patient Panel: Provide high-quality, compassionate care to a small patient panel. Expected workload of 0.2 clinical practice and 0.8 administrative.
- Healthcare Regulatory Compliance: Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for healthcare regulatory compliance, developing standards for operational processes and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Clinical Operations Regulatory Compliance: Ensure operational practices align with federal, state, and industry regulations by advising cross-functional teams and contributing to compliance strategy.
- Engage with Product and Tech Teams: Collaborate with Clinical and Member Operations to ensure that clinical guidelines are defined, allowing workflows and tools to be optimized for usability and efficiency.
- Support Marketing Efforts: Collaborate with the Marketing team to provide clinical expertise for the rollout of new clinical offerings, ensuring accurate representation of services.
- OKR Support: Drive alignment on organizational OKRs by supporting goal-setting, tracking progress, and reporting outcomes to stakeholders.
- Support Clinical Projects: Provide guidelines and ad-hoc support on cross-functional projects to ensure clinical accuracy.
Must-Have:
- A strong understanding and appreciation for the trans experience and a commitment to increasing access to gender-affirming care.
- 3+ years of experience working directly with the TGNC community in a clinical setting.
- 10+ years of experience seeing patients in a clinical setting.
- A valid license and certification to practice medicine (MD/DO, NP, PA).
- Proven work experience in a medical director role or a similar capacity.
- Demonstrated people management experience, particularly in leading clinicians.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to run meetings and manage multiple projects, including KPIs and OKRs.
- Proficient in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and other office productivity tools.
- Experience in primary care and mental health management.
- Experience working in a fully remote telehealth setting
