The Risk, Backbook and Integrations team is responsible for 2 mandates:

  • Providing oversight of the Risk aspects (Credit, Fraud, Merchant Risk) for International portfolios and acquisitions of Affirm
  • Backbook Risk management function of Affirm globally

The team works cross-functionally with Risk verticals, Compliance, ERM, Machine Learning, Product, Engineering, Operations, and Commercial teams to establish appropriate Risk appetite for the International division of Affirm. Along with the definition and execution of the Risk strategy and ownership of the overall backbook performance, monitoring, and forecasting - this role will also be responsible for the overall consumer repayment and modification tools strategy.

As a Director of Backbook Risk, UK at Affirm, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of consumer financial services, commerce, and payments in the UK. Affirm is expanding in the UK and looking for a leader to undertake the responsibilities under the FCA SM&CR regime of this next phase of growth in the UK market. This is an individual contributor role, which requires a diverse skillset across merchant risk, consumer fraud and credit risks, portfolio management, and analytics. As a Director, you will collaborate with cross functional partners in Risk (Merchant Risk, Fraud Risk, Credit Risk) to provide advisory support and will spearhead the Backbook Risk function in UK.

You should be outcomes driven with a very high bias for action and are undaunted by multiple dependencies, both internal and external.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • As Director, UK Risk you will have responsibilities under the FCA SM&CR regime
  • Be responsible for UK Backbook Risk Management
  • Own overall backbook performance, monitoring, and forecasting
  • Own the overall consumer repayment and modification tools strategy
  • Liaising with Collections and Recoveries Operations team to implement the strategy designed for UK
  • Partner with CLeaR and Backbook Operations to ensure that backbook management in UK is a compliant high integrity consumer experience
  • Understand the perspective of regulators on backbook management
  • Ensure backbook compliance risk identification and remediation considers the ecosystem from origination through collection
  • Ensure our practices meet the highest standards, and are future proof to the evolution of the industry
  • Support Director, Risk, Backbook and Integrations in providing Risk oversight and establishing the risk appetite and developing the risk strategy for UK
  • Collaborate cross functionally to ensure execution of the Risk strategy through development of a cohesive roadmap across multiple Risk aspects that supports business and product strategy in UK
  • Develop and implement Risk controls for UK portfolio of Affirm in collaboration with functional verticals
  • Participate in due diligence of potential acquisitions and drive Risk aspects of the integration process for acquired portfolios to support the fulfillment of the acquisition thesis globally
  • Be the UK subject matter expert working with cross functional teams to ensure the underwriting, affordability, credit risk, external fraud provisions meet all required standards in the Uk market and that there are adequate controls in place at all times
  • Maintain and update relevant department policies
  • Work with the UK Risk Committee to develop and maintain credit risk and fraud risk strategy, produce regular reports and MI to support ongoing decision making and resource allocation.
  • Ensure all our interactions with customers comply with the Consumer Duty principles and wider regulatory framework in the UK

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

  • Passion and drive to redefine both the retail and lending industry for the better through honest financial products!
  • 10+ years of experience in an analytically rigorous role and preferably 7+ years of UK Risk experience across all stages of loan life cycle in Consumer lending with a strong foundation in analytics
  • Experience of working in a regulated entity in the UK and working with the UK regulator
  • Experience in working in a matrix management environment
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree degree in a quantitatively rigorous discipline like engineering, statistics, math, finance, economics, computer science desired
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and very adaptable. Readiness to be hands on. To enjoy this role, hunger to learn and a growth mindset will be table stakes, as change will be constant
  • Proficiency with SQL required. Experience with Python or other statistical scripting languages, experience developing predictive models is preferred
  • A team player with ability to collaborate and influence across different teams in the organization. Strong stakeholder understanding and management skills

Base Pay Grade - T

Equity Grade - UK 8

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). In addition, the employees may be eligible for equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc. (parent company).

GBR base pay range per year: £161,000 - £221,000
