We are Route

Buying stuff online can get messy once you hit that “order” button. Managing dozens carrier tracking links, dealing with lost or damaged packages, and resolving issues with customer support can feel like a wild goose chase. Route is on a mission to connect the world’s commerce. Through our network of +5 million Route App users and 15,000 merchants, we’re making it easier than ever for consumers to track, insure, and discover their favorite products in one place — which connects the world’s coolest direct-to-consumer brands to happy repeat customers.

Since Route launched in 2018, we’ve been on a journey to build innovative products that empower our customers, all while fostering a people-first, values-driven company culture. We’re looking for talented people across the ecommerce space to join us on the next steps of this adventure.

Don’t just take our word for it! Discover what life at Route has to offer.

The team

Finance ensures that Route grows in a sustainable, efficient, and intelligent way, over the short and long-term. This expert team of financial analysts, accountants and other specialists act as trusted partners to the entire 400+ person-company, supporting departments in annual budget management, creating regular reports for the board and leadership, streamlining processes, and implementing best practices. They bring the expertise needed to constantly deliver smooth financial operations for Route.

The Opportunity

Seeking a Controller to lead and grow Route’s Accounting organization. The Controller will be responsible for all accounting processes, preparation of GAAP financial statements, tax matters and external auditor engagement. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial self-starter, who enjoys the challenges of a growth-stage, venture-backed startup environment and has a strong track record of leading and building exceptional teams. Success in this role is dependent on leadership, organization/people development, process improvement, strategic execution, ability to deal with a rapidly changing business environment and strong communication. This position will report directly to the CFO.

  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements including systems enhancements and integrations, policy changes, workflow changes and financial controls in support of the future growth of the Company
  • Oversee the timeliness, efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of financial accounting and reporting under US GAAP and ensure that Route continues to comply with key FASB standards, including ASC 842, ASC 718, and ASC 606
  • Provide insight to management on cash burn, GAAP revenue, gross margin, and expenses for the company; work closely with the FP&A team to analyze and report on variances to plan
  • Partner closely with third parties to manage annual audits, filings, taxes, and other corporate accounting activities
