PRESSURE VESSEL SPECIALIST
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure compliance with SpaceX quality specification for pressure vessel fabrication, repairs, and alterations by performing recurring audits
- Perform internal and external inspections to determine if a vessel meets the acceptance criteria of ASME Section VIII Division 1 and applicable ASME/NBIC documents
- Compile and submit data of acceptance or rejection of inspections, as well as for inter-office communications, for jurisdictional requirements for vessel certification and registration to NBIC
- Verify the compliance of materials with the applicable specifications and ensure they meet ASME Section VIII and Section II requirements
- Oversee, coordinate with the AI, and approve pressure vessel repair activities. Also, Recommend and approve repairs as well as perform visual inspection of work in progress and completed work
- Confirm and approve adequate documentation of fabrication and inspection activities and ensure they meet the requirements of ASME Section VIII Division 1
- Interpret, review, and approve engineering drawings and calculations as required. Also, review and approve applicable NDE techniques for compliance to ASME Section V and Section VIII
- Conduct vendor surveillance audits of welding and inspection for pressure vessel work prior to shipment to SpaceX facility
- Develop our vendor base and work with engineering/supply chain to establish preferred vendors to work with
- Be the engineering liaison from a GSE inspection perspective – develop new specs/practices as appropriate to ensure the appropriate rigor is applied across GSE hardware
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 2+ years of experience working on pressure vessels
- 5+ years of experience as current American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- NBIC IS/R or API certification
- Experience as a technical trainer and/or experience leading vendor audits
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive knowledge of ASME Section V, VIII Division 1 and 2, and API 510
- Working knowledge of surface and subsurface NDE methodologies
- NDE qualifications in MT, VT, UT, and PAUT
- Senior CWI
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Travel up to 75% of the time
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist
- Willingness to work overtime hours and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines
- Ability to pass Space Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Pressure Vessel Specialist: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
