SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

The Starlink Hardware Test Team develops test solutions for the most cutting-edge, high volume communication satellites and ground stations in the world! We are looking for a CAD Designer to design and support the production of electrical/electronic equipment for test systems that quickly and thoroughly validate that each component of hardware on our products will survive deployment and functionality in use, whether in orbit or on earth. Our designers are endlessly curious, love to learn and try out new things, and work collaboratively across disciplines in a dynamic environment with changing needs as we strive to deliver high-impact technology on a global scale.

  • Interpret electrical system design requirements and build original layouts, iterative assembly and detail drawings, schematics and illustrations
  • Select components from SpaceX preferred manufacturers/components, and prepare design detail drawings and schematics for electrical equipment using EPLAN
  • Manage libraries
  • Ensure compliance with UL508a and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, and dimension and tolerance practices per ANSI Y14.5
  • Deliver production assembly drawings, detail drawings, bills of material, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment lists
  • Review, analyze, and integrate the technical requirements, technical accuracy, and design approach in conjunction with team engineers
  • Craft electro-mechanical packaging of industrial control panels and enclosures based on high-level concepts from engineers
  • Present and review designs with test and design engineers and attend meetings as needed
  • Prepare and release fully developed drawings into internal data management systems
  • Participate in reviewing engineering drawings supplied by vendors, clients, and other subject areas, for consistency to drafting standards
  • Design multi-layer PCB assemblies based on engineering schematics

  • Experience in developing electrical equipment assemblies, schematics, one-line diagrams, and equipment schedules
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science or Engineering Design & Technology or 10+ years of applicable professional experience with Associate degree in Electronics, Computer Science or Engineering Design & Technology
  • Experience using CAD

  • Advanced CAD skills using EPLAN
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical design standards and codes, including UL508a, NEC, and ANSI Y14.5
  • At least 2 years of experience with design of control systems for electromechanical systems and/or electrical/server racks
  • Well-adapted in model and drawing revision control
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver work in a timely manner
  • Works well on a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience in the design and/or production of electrical harnessing
  • Sophisticated knowledge of electrical equipment design and components such as: power supplies, relays, contactors, connectors, PLCs, motor drives, control switches/buttons, enclosures, terminal blocks, wire sizing
  • Familiarity with industrial operational technology networking equipment and structured cabling design
  • Previous experience/background in the testing/production of aerospace equipment/systems
  • Background in RF equipment, design and/or testing
  • Formal training/advanced skills in Eplan, Siemens Nx, AutoCAD, Altium Designer
  • Strong 3D CAD skills for designing fabricated parts and assisting in building equipment layouts
  • Field experience with control system wiring, startup, and testing
