About The Role

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to own and evolve a fully serverless, event-driven backend platform built for high-volume data processing. You'll be designing and operating systems that ingest, route, and process millions of events — reliably, efficiently, and at scale. This is a hands-on technical leadership role: you'll write code every day and be the person others look to for architecture decisions and engineering standards. We move fast and use AI-assisted development as a core part of how we work — not as a novelty. If you're not already using tools like Claude and Cursor to accelerate your output, this probably isn't the right fit.

What You’ll Do

•Architecture and delivery of high-throughput, event-driven backend systems processing millions of events daily •Building and maintaining edge compute logic on Cloudflare Workers — routing, transformation, and lightweight processing at the edge •Designing for scale: fan-out patterns, queue-based load leveling, backpressure handling, dead-letter queues, and retry strategies •DynamoDB data modeling — single-table design, access pattern optimization, and cost-conscious indexing •Relational database design and query optimization in PostgreSQL or MySQL — complex joins, indexing strategies, query plans, and schema migrations at scale •Data warehouse architecture and pipelines moving data between transactional systems, event stores, and analytical layers •Columnar database management for analytical workloads using ClickHouse, SingleStore, or equivalent •Full observability ownership in Datadog — dashboards, APM, log management, distributed tracing, monitors, and alerts across a distributed serverless system •Infrastructure as code via AWS CDK or SAM — you deploy what you build •Code reviews, technical documentation, and engineering standards for the backend •Mentorship and technical direction for junior and mid-level engineer

What You’ll Bring

•6+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 3 years building production serverless systems on AWS •Hands-on experience with Cloudflare Workers in production — edge routing, request transformation, or lightweight compute at the CDN layer •Deep hands-on experience with event-driven architecture at high volume — SQS, SNS, EventBridge, and Kinesis in production, not just on paper •Expert-level TypeScript and Node.js — you know the concurrency model, cold start implications, and how to write Lambda functions that behave well under load •Expert-level SQL — you write complex queries, understand execution plans, and can optimize for both correctness and performance across large datasets •Deep experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL in production: schema design, indexing, query optimization, and migrations •Hands-on experience with data warehousing — building pipelines that move and transform data for analytical use •Working knowledge of columnar databases such as ClickHouse, SingleStore, Redshift, or BigQuery — understanding when and why to use them versus row-oriented stores •Deep experience with DynamoDB, including single-table design and its access pattern constraints •Production experience with Datadog — not just logging, but APM, tracing, custom metrics, and building observability into distributed async systems from the ground up •Hands-on experience with IaC — AWS CDK preferred •Active, fluent use of agentic coding tools — specifically Claude (including Claude Code) and Cursor — as part of your everyday development workflow •Strong async communication skills — this is a remote-first team Bonus Points •Experience integrating with advertising or e-commerce APIs (Meta, Google Ads, Shopify, etc.) •Background in data pipelines, webhook processing, or customer data platforms •Experience building or working with MCP servers or custom Claude integrations •Prior experience in a lead or staff IC role at a startup
