Head of Civil Engineering – Las Vegas

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more, with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

  • Lead and manage all civil engineering activities for Las Vegas operations, including site development, permitting, surveying, and utility coordination.
  • Oversee a growing team of 5 civil engineers and designers responsible for the planning, design, and field execution of all civil scope.
  • Own end-to-end civil engineering deliverables — from initial site investigations through final construction closeout — ensuring design accuracy, schedule alignment, and field readiness.
  • Ensure safe and precise underground work by coordinating with survey, utility locating, and tunneling teams to prevent utility conflicts and subsurface strikes.
  • Establish and enforce civil engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and design best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with tunneling, construction, mechanical, and electrical teams to resolve field issues and maintain project momentum.
  • Interface with local jurisdictions, permitting agencies, and contractors to maintain compliance and support timely approvals.
  • Mentor and develop civil engineering team members, emphasizing technical excellence, field awareness, and proactive problem solving.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record and review/stamp design documents.
  • Support cross-site coordination with other TBC locations and standardize processes company-wide.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Current Civil Engineering PE License (in Nevada, or other states)
  • 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, including field and design work.
  • Background in surveying, site development, or subsurface utility coordination.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and civil design workflows.
  • Strong understanding of grading, drainage, utilities, and land development principles.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • PE Licenses in additional states.
  • Experience with subsurface, tunneling, or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-stakes, fast-moving projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and technical judgment.
  • Hands-on approach and ability to transition seamlessly between field and office work.

Additional Requirements

  • Position may require extended hours and weekend work.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and other company locations as needed (up to 20%).
