In office
Full-time
The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are developing technology to increase tunneling speed and reduce costs by a factor of 10 or more, with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Fire Life Safety to lead fire protection and life safety initiatives across our expanding tunneling and infrastructure projects. This role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and scaling fire life safety systems, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards, and supporting rapid project growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fire alarm systems, system integration, and working with contractors in complex construction environments.
Responsibilities
Fire Life Safety Leadership: lead the development and execution of fire life safety strategies across all active and future projects, ensuring systems scale effectively with project growth and operational complexity.
System Design & Implementation: oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of fire alarm and life safety systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA codes, local AHJ requirements, and project-specific standards.
Contractor Coordination: interface directly with fire life safety contractors, vendors, and AHJs to manage installation quality, timelines, inspections, and system acceptance.
Technical Oversight: provide subject matter expertise on fire alarm systems, detection, suppression integration, and emergency communication systems, and support troubleshooting and system optimization.
Compliance & Risk Management: ensure all systems meet regulatory requirements, proactively identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain safety and operational continuity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: work closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams to integrate fire life safety systems into overall project design and execution.
Standards & Process Development: establish company-wide standards, specifications, and best practices for fire life safety systems as the organization scales.
Continuous Improvement: analyze system performance, inspection results, and incident data to drive ongoing improvements in safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Basic Requirements
  • Minimum 4 years of verifiable experience (within the last 15 years) as a journeyman, foreman, supervisor, or contractor in fire protection systems - with strong emphasis on standpipe systems, underground piping, or water-based fire protection.
